Dear list members,
Regarding the discussion on the Bukowina Reunion 2007, we, the Organizing
Committee would like to clarify:
1. The decisions regarding both the date and the content of the Reunion were
adopted in a democratic way, by the only ones who volunteered to prepare
this event – the Organizing Committee – by voting 5 to 1.
2. The few Czernowitzers and Bukowiners who are still alive, may not have
another chance to experience such a Reunion, so the mere existence of this
event, on this time and date, is its main importance. All the rest are but
technical particulars.
3. Materializing this Reunion, successfully and in a pleasant atmosphere,
could become the last opportunity to bring together - on an international
scale - our second generation with the living witnesses to the creation of
our wonderful cultural heritage.
4. We hereby state that we did not and will not let anyone spoil those noble
aspirations. Struggling over ego and any fights for "kavod" are not our way.
It is us who asked the World Organization of Bukowina Jews for help in
organizing this Reunion (it was not them who "kidnapped" it) and they should
be accredited for the help they are so willingly giving us.
5. For us, members of the Organizing Committee, nothing would be easier than
letting it go and leave the whole thing to die. However we did volunteer to
this task in order to contribute our best to the preservation of the
memories, the Czernowitz and Bukowina culture and its typical way of life,
for the sake of ours and our children's generations – and so we s h a l l
continue our work.
6. We regret witnessing members of the list "furiously" deciding not to come
as an act of protest. We hope that those who are not pleased with the change
of the meeting date will understand the custom of Israeli hotels, to not
hold big events on the week before "Pesach". We hope they join us anyway for
the sake of friendship and making this event everything it should be. We, on
our part, sincerely and good-heartedly invite each and every one of you and
your families to come and participate in the Reunion which will be held for
sure on 17-19 April in the fatherland of us all.
Shalom = peace to you all,
Nathan Gross - Architect & Town Planner
On Behalf of the organizing committee.
