Hello to all
I am a new member of this List, having unsuccessfully tried a number of other sites in the past. I am trying to find any information my late father's family. He was MAX FUHR, who may well have been born in Czernowitz in 1910.
His father was SIMON FUHR, born around 1880, and lived a good part of his life in Czernowitz, where he may have been in the shoe business.
SIMON married ERNESTINA (but usually known by her Hebrew name of ESTHER) some time around 1905. They had two children, JEANETTE and MAX (born 15.05.1910, died 16.11.1982 in Yorkshire, England).
It is not known whether JEANETTE and MAX were born in Czernowitz, but I do know that the family moved to the Circusgasse in Vienna, probably around the time of WW1. They left separately for England in 1937, 1938 1939, to maximise the chances of at least one getting through to freedom. Surprisingly, they all made it.
Some of my father's cousins also got out. One, possibly named Harold, made it to New York; and a cousin apparently called ROSA, managed to survive the camps to resettle in Romania.
Any help will be gratefully received.
Thanks
Mike
