hi all, the conscription letters are of much interest, mainly because if
you look at the family pics i sent to the web site you will see a selection
of my uncles etc in austrian uniform.in my family it was by
volunteering......we had a sort of military orientation, most going into
the k&k infanterie regiment erzherzog eugen no.41( founded in 1701 and thus
in spite of the no being the 3rdd oldest regt in the imperial service), but
we also had family in the k&k landwehrinfanterie regt czernowitz no 22.
to the best of my knowledge nobody joined any cavalry outfits, probably
didn,t want to fall off.. i also remember reading that we were far from a
rarity, quite a lot of jews joined up. one of my military history books has
a photo, i suspect from ww1, showing a feldrabbiner in full regalia.
