Dear Czernowitzers,
I appreciate the suggestions and ideas on this topic made by
Rand H Fishbein, Robert Burton, Andrew Halmay, Eduard Weissmann,
Hardy Breier and Danny Alon.
Since so many of us would like the Chernivtsy city administration
to acknowledge the role Czernowitz Jews had in developing and making
the city in to the small gem it was, I believe we would be more effective,
In achieving our goal, if we all acted as a group of former Jewish
Czernowitzers and their descendants.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no formal association of Czernowitz
Jews which could represent us and I doubt, we can organize such an
association in a short time. But if we agreed on what we ACTUALLY WANT THE
CITY ADMINISTRATION TO DO in order to acknowledge the contribution of it's
former Jewish population, also came up with suggestions of how we might help
them to do so and mention that by their acknowledging the Jewish heritage of
Chernivtsy, they would attract additional tourists, we are likely to be much
more successful.
We also should contact the Chernivtsy Jewish community and ask for their
advice and help.
Shana Tovah, all the best and Shalom al chol Israel!
Mimi
