In answer to David, Jerome, Hardy and Merle,

I agree with all you wrote.
If we are to succeed in saving these grave-stones
we need to take immediate and effective steps.

I just tried to reach both Rabbi Glisenstein and Dr. Bursuk.
Neither was at home, but they both still live in Czernowitz
and I will try again to phone them in a few hours from now.

I'll probably also try to reach Lev Kleyman.

I will try to find out what the true situation is, whether the city
really intends to just throw the stones away and if the local Jewish
community is doing anything about it. As soon as I know anything,
I'll let you know.
In the meantime, I hope that some of you will determine whether any
international organization, such as UNESCO, or any Jewish organization
can help in this matter. There may even be a Ukrainian law pertaining
to this.

If those who are willing to take an active part in this project,
will tell the rest of us what they are willing to do, we will not
duplicate our efforts.

Time is short, possibly it is already too late,
but we will not know until we try.

Best regards,

Mimi
