I had an Aunt Heli (nee Helene Rendel) and Uncle Bubi (Israel 'Isiu')
Schaerf who lived in Caracas, Venezuela after the war. Heli was a
sister to my late father, Carol (Rendel) Rendall's father, Sigmund
Rendel.

>From what I understand, Heli worked for a steamship company in
Czernowitz in the 1920's, and arranged for her brother Sigmund to be an
'escort' for a wealthy woman on her trip to Brazil. This was in 1926 or
1927, when my father was just 6 or 7 years old. Sigmund never returned,
leaving his wife Lotte, my father and 5 year old Jeni. My dad never saw
or heard from Sigmund again, became the man of the house at that
ridiculously young age and had his entire survivor life and aggressive
personality shaped by this cruel turn of events. Through Jeni, who
emigrated to Caracas with her husband in in the late 1940's, my father
occasionally heard about Sigmund, being told that he had married a
Brazilian woman and had had 5 or more children. Sigmund lived in
Pernambuco, Brazil until his death in the 1950's and I have been
unsuccessfully trying to track down any information on him and/or his
Brazilian family for years.

Why the interest in Scharf?
