I had been amused by some of the comments of the past few days about any of us presently living in different parts of the world even considering to move back to Cz and so I forwarded a type of "I come to bury Caesar not to praise him" message. To my delight some of you took me seriously. Hardy pointed out that even the Prut ain't what it used to be. Between you and me, Hardy, if the Prut turned into milk with floating flakes of gold, I would still not consider settling in Cz.
On the subject of restitution, though, I was more serious and I don't fully agree with those of you who claim that this is a hopeless task. Of course, it is far fetched, but it is no more far fetched than Herzl's dream which became a glorious reality. The main problem, as I see it, is that there are too few of us to get the attention of politicians but though the chances of any progress in such an effort are minuscule, by making ANY kind of effort, the chances are immediately improved.
And so, prompted by this negativism, I am going to try to find out who it is in the U.S. and Canadian Governments who mostly influences the various aid programs to contact them with this issue. I don't like to see my tax dollars go to a country that won't give me back the house that my grandmother built and in which I was born.
As a dual citizen of both the U.S. and Canada where I am obliged to file taxes, I will, of course, send copies to my MP and Member of Congress and I'll send a copy to this list, too. Perhaps it will inspire some of you to do likewise.
Cheers,
Andy Halmay
