Hardy asks how I can tell that most Chernivtsi residents
value the culture and way of life of the prewar Jewish population.
My answer:
By the number of memorial plaques to Jewish writers, scientists
and artists. By the poetry festival held in Chernivtsi every fall,
in which Jewish poetry is read and praised.
By the number of Jewish dishes which can be found in Chernivtsi
restaurants. By the fact that in the last elections the candidate who
got most of the votes in the Chernivtsi region, is rumored to be half
Jewish.
