This is in answer to Hardy and others who speculate
about antisemitism in Chernivtsi at present.
The number of Jewish residents of the city is currently about 1500.
At least 2/two members of the city council are Jewish.
The total population of Chernivtsi is around 200 000.
I do not know the total number of city councilors,
but estimate it to be less than 40 people.
So: The percentage of Jews in the city is less than 1%.
The percentage of Jews elected to the city council is
at least 5%, it follows that non-Jews elect Jews.

As I have written before, I am in Chernivtsi frequently
The people I come in contact with, all know that I am Jewish,
Not once has anyone treated me with the least hint of Anti-Semitism.
Are there any Anti-Semites in Chernivtsi?
I do not know, but there probably are.
Are they a large majority?
No. The people who now live in the apartment in which I lived
during the war, have a daughter who married a Jewish man
and now lives happily in Israel. Last year at the cemetery
I met a woman who had come to visit from Israel.
Her daughter married to Ukrainian man, lives happily in Chernivtsi.

If we are to talk about Chmielnitzki and events which happened in 1648,
let us also talk about the expulsion from Spain and Portugal,
the expulsion from the city of Lincoln in England,
the murder of Jews during the crusades, and on and on.....

While it is understandable that we are suspicious and wary,
It is wrong and harmful to consider everyone our enemy.
