Dear Hardy,
I do not know how to say dumb but you can use ‘stupid tourist” translated GLUPY TURIST.
I was 8 years old when I left Czernowitz.
Mimi and I were in the 2nd grade together. We studied there Yiddish, which for me was a foreign language and Russian. Some people say that we studied Ukrainian but I think it was Russian.
Later in 1963 I was posted to Belgrade, Yugoslavia for 6 years. I picked up the language (Serbo-Croatian) after 3 months, it is a Slavic language.
In 1987 I was posted to Leningrad for two years and the language just came back.
So in 1988, I visited Czernowitz for the first time.
After returning to the hotel MAGNAT LUX, I went to the Herrengasse and there at the entrance were several taxis and there I saw my driver again. When he saw me he started telling my story to the other drivers who started to lough and yelleing “molodets, molodets”.
