In Chernivtsi today a sandwich is still called "butterbrot"....but today

    Yes Yosef,
 At school we got sandwiches of this bread with a some sugar spread
  on top.
   They called it "Buterbrody" a German adopted word for sandwiches.
   No Butter and no Brod.
