Dear Christian,
it is truly a great project and I would be happy to help you. By some
counts there were 74 or 76 synagogues in Czernowitz in the 1930s (I
don't know if this number includes 12 synagogues in Sadgora, if yes,
then your count of 60 is very close). Some of these synagogues were
actually shtiblekh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shtiebel) and as such
they are difficult to distinguish architecturally.
Even a cursory look at the Chabad list reveals missing points: I
immediately identified two large synagogues that are not listed there.
One of them, on Rusnakov St (Sturmgasse) has a facade completely
rebuilt in 1950s (currently it houses TV studios). Here are "then and
now" pictures:

Another one is on Universitetskaya St:

A number of old and new pictures of synagogues is available in

Using this list, I was strolling through the streets of the city in August 2012. Often these traces can only be suspected, but sometimes they are also obvious. From the former 60 synagogues and prayer houses many are still there.
