Anny.... We don't insist on plain text, the software that delivers the
mail to the list insists upon it.

If it isn't in plain text to begin with than we have to strip all the
extraneous stuff out of the message in order to make it 'look' like it
was in plain text to begin with. That means what 'you' could have done
easily in the first place, has to be done the hard way by someone else.

JewishGen, the largest Jewish genealogical website also uses the same
software. They simply return the message to the sender with a note if it
is not in plain text -- period. In other words: no plain text, no post.
We are not that cruel. If you can't do it, you can't do it, and we will
do it for you. But the results often times are not pretty.

I think, but I can't tell from your description, that the hieroglyphs
that you refer to are caused by our editing process because it was not
sent in plain text in the first place. I'll bet you don't see any
hieroglyphics in this post, right? That's because it was sent in plain
text format in the first place.

You're using Gmail... so when you hit 'Reply', if you are not in Plain
Text mode, you will see just below the 'To:'window, a line of formatting
options (bold, italic, etc.), the last option is a link that says 'Plain
Text'. Click on that and your message will be sent in Plain Text. It's
that simple. This saves us a lot of work on this end and always produces
readable results

Hope this helps!

Best,
jerome
