In old Czernowitz most buildings were one story houses
or what we called " Parter " - from the French : par terre.
Close to the earth.
The next floor was first floor when it actually was second.
We lived second floor which actually was third.
Why was it so ?
Tradition - Parter always stays Parter .
" Ich wohne Parter !"
