Ref: Article in the Washington Post and October trip to Czernowitz
>Dear friends,
I was somehow alienated by the negative reaction to the article in
the Washington Post. If our topic "Czernowitz and Sadagora Jewish
History and Genealogy"
is to be taken seriously, one cannot not ignore its major political
aspect. History is by definition a political issue, and the article
dealt, among other, with Hitler and Stalin's role in Jewish history.
Personally I found the article very interesting, especially as it was
written by a person of Czernowitz descent. I believe we should
oppose any attempt to censor this forum out of personal
convictions.
It is my opinion that cooking recipes of maeyene and borsch are
welcome, but less important to this forum than the article above.
As to the October trip to Czernowitz, I cannot discover a positive
note in the official city preparations for next year's celebration
(banners everywhere) as long
as the official homepage refuses to acknowledge the period between
1905 and 1962 as part of the city's history. My last letter to the
Mayor has not been
answered nor acted upon, which was to be expected. Congratulation to
the group for their success. A pity that Marianne, Florence and Leo
did not have time to get to speak with the new head of the community
Misha Klein, to discuss plans for the cemetery, other related issues,
etc, and make him aware of the interest of the Czernowitz Jewish
community all over the world in the city's Jewish past and present.
