[Cz-L] Czernowitz Jewish cemetery

Dear Czernowitzers,

With the immeasurable help and initiative of Christian Herrmann,
I have started to look into the possibility of having
the Jewish cemetery of Czernowitz cleaned and cleared
of weeds and bushes by volunteer groups from Germany,
similarly to what was done some years ago by a group of Dutch volunteers.

In order to get such a project going, we would need:

1. The cooperation of the mayor and city administration of Chernivtsi
   and letters from the mayor attesting to his willingness to cooperate
   with the volunteers
 
2. Letters of explanation and persuasion, to be sent to the organizations
   which would organize and send the volunteers. In these letters we would
   write about the special standing of Czernowitz, the city's place in
   Jewish as well as European culture, the Jewish community of Czernowitz
   as it was between the middle of the 19th century till WW2 and the
   importance of the Cz. Jewish cemetery to us former residents of the city
   and their descendants. We would also emphasize the fact that the cemetery
   is a historical and cultural monument which needs to be preserved.

I would very much appreciate any help in composing these letters. They will
eventually need to be written in German, but if you would like to
participate in writing these letters, you can send me suggestions,
quotations, references and the like in English.

Please, also, do not send me just references on their own.
If you send me references accompanied by quotations, you will make my job
much easier.
