"Odesser Gass" is I think a case of mixed languges. The street referred to
is, I think, vul Odeskoi, the German name of which is the Kaliczankaergasse.
This is made clear in the thread which Bruce drew to our attention,
http://community.livejournal.com/gr_czernowitz/1000612.html
This link has a picture of the cemetery. The text of this link also
mentions the Steile Gasse, although my Ukrainian is not up to understanding
the context. However, the Steile Gasse is a turning off the end of the
Kaliczankaergasse, so this seems consistent. Asher Turtel remembers the
cemetery as being behind the Gerbergasse, which is a turning off the
Steilegasse (although on the other side of the road from the
Kaliczankaergasse), so this is again consistent.
So the cemetery was clearly in this area, although we do not seem to have
quite enough information to locate it exactly. It would appear to have been
either to the south or the north of the Gerbergasse (probably the latter, as
this is nearer the Kaliczankaergasse), and on the west side of the
Steilegasse.
The Althgasse is in a completely different part of the town.
Best regards to all,
David
