Czernowitzers:

I'm passing to you this message from Wolf Scheachter. At the end I've
included a link to the sample data that Wolf photographed.
Best,

Monday afternoon, before taking the airplane back to San Jose, Donna and I
stopped at the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City to explore the
microfilm stuff they have on CZ.

Although, the years we were looking for were "in the vault" there was one
film that I photographed to get an idea of how the data looks. Although
not useful for me, one could find treasures of in those films. Like where
the people and their ancestors were born, places they came from, and so
on. See that attached images.

According to the volunteer who guided us, the information in the records
is uneven. Sometimes you get the whole enchilada and other times, just
names without much more.

The CZ records, by the way, include a special set of Jewish-only films.
These are subdivided into films of the "matrial" or "matrical" [birth,
marriage, death] records and civil records. The films are by year, with
one film containing several years. All this is on the LDS family history
website.

To get films out of the vault, one calls the distribution center and they
send the films to the local library. Apparently that can take time if you
are not in Zion, which is what the Mormons call Utah. If one is visiting
the Salt Lake headquarters of the Library, the vault process takes only
two days and sometimes a morning call can have the films there in the
afternoon.

We'll probably go back there and attempt to find out more about my
ancestors who left no records.

Wolf
