I don't know if emigration was common because of conscription but my father
and his older brother came in 1920 because my Uncle was of military age and my
father was 18 years old. My Uncle had had a heart problem (rheumatic fever)
as a child and my grandfather did not want him to go to the military so he sent
his sons to America. My Uncle died of a heart attack in 1954. The rest of the
family ended up in Tomsk Siberia. Madelyn Berid Pollack
