Greetings,
This is to inform all of you that I have added a Czernowitz page to my "Main
Town Page Lists." This means that there is now a single page that Czernowitz
researchers can use when visiting my website to find all the material I have
on Czernowitz. You will also find links to pages of interest outside of my
virtual museum. I thank all of you who have made a contribution of material
to my site. I am grateful for your generosity.
I went to Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, New York yesterday and photographed
the Czernowitz society plot there. You should know that of the nine plots
that exist in the New York metro area, only the burial information for the
Beth David plot and the plot at Wellwood is not available online. You can
find names, plot locations and dates of death for seven Czernowitz plots
using some of the searchable cemetery databases that are now online, except
for the two I've mentioned (links to these cemetery websites/databases can
be found at www.museumoffamilyhistory.com/cp-directory.htm .) The seven
plots can be found at Mts. Carmel, Hebron and Zion. You can learn the
society names and society plot locations of all nine New York plots by going
to www.jgsny.org and clicking on the link for "10,200 Burial Societies In
The New York Metro Area." Then search under the town name using the spelling
Chernovtsy.
Now that I've photographed and databased both plots at Beth David and
Wellwood, I have a complete list of all Czernowitz-associated burials in the
New York metro area. I have revised my Czernowitz unique surnames list--it
is now complete--so you might like to take a look at it to see if there is a
surname of interest to you. Of course, if you are interested in receiving a
digital photo by e-mail of someone buried at either of the two plots
mentioned above, let me know and I'll e-mail it to you when I can. I have no
gravestone photos of the other seven New York Czernowitz plots (nor do I
have any information or gravestone photographs from the cemeteries in
Czernowitz itself.)
Hope my work is useful to you.
Regards,
Steve Lasky
