[Cz-L] Museum of German speaking Jewry at Tefen

Dear Czernowitzers,

During my recent visit to Israel, I went to the Museum of German speaking
Jewry at Tefen in the Galilee. I was surprised to find that Bukowina and
Czernowitz Jewry are not mentioned on the list of localities in which the
Jewish population spoke German, nor are they indicated on the map which
shows these localities.

I have written to the museum pointing out their omission and have sent them
a list of notable Czernowitzers, but received no reply.

Possibly Czernowitz and Bukowina Jewry is of no interest
to those who established and run the museum;
the museum is named "German Speaking Jewry Museum"
But also "Jekke Heritage Center"

Strictly speaking, we are not "Jekke"s, but neither are the Jews of
Prague, and they are included.

On the other hand it could be said:
We did not really speak German, certainly not Hoch Deutsch".
Our language was Czernowitzer Deutsch, and Oh! how much "saftiger"
and friendlier is this language!

And what wonderful poetry was written in German in Czernowitz:

With his slim brown hand.
