I'm searching for information about the Breger family that came from
Vizhnitsa, Zhadova and Dzhurov, three towns about 20 miles from
Czernowitz. In 1899, Josel Chaim Breger arrived in NY from Vizhnitsa.
He was followed by his brothers, Eisig (1902) and Moses Jonah Breger (1902).
They, in turn, were joined in 1900 to 1907 by wives and children with
manifest pages showing Zhadowa and Dzhurov as last residences.
All stayed in the New York city area, and most were involved with the
fur business. The families of the three brothers each had from 6 to 9
children, all born in Bukovina before emigrating. Sons (such as Jacob
and Boris Breger) joined in the fur business and died in New York in
the 1940's to 70's.
I'm looking to make contact with a direct Breger descendent. Have
corresponded with a connection through marriage, but not much new
information was available. Looked at the historical NY Times and
ancestry.com, but now stuck.
Any help will be appreciated.
