[Cz-L] The wife of Rabbi Mark

Greetings,

I think perhaps that there a number of list members who do not know that
Perla Mark, the wife of the late chief rabbi of Czernowitz, Rabbi Abraham
Jakob Mark, testified in 1961 in Jerusalem at the Adolf Eichmann trial. Did
many of you know about this?

You can read the testimony by visiting my website, by seeing two of the
webpages that will eventually make up my much larger exhibition about the
Jewish past of Czernowitz. The first is a small page about the Temple in
Czernowitz, the second contains the Mark testimony, mostly about the day in
Jul 1941 when 500 Jews were rounded up and killed, the synagogue burned
down, etc. It is quite informative, though chilling testimony.

So feel free to visit these two pages. The link to the testimony is on the
first page; just click on the word "testimony" in blue in the body of the
text.

If anyone has any memories of the synagogue in Czernowitz, or even how you
and your family celebrated the Sabbath during your years in Czernowitz,
please send them to me so I can include your personal recollections in my
exhibition. I tend to think such presentations are much more interesting and
valuable when such recollections come from those who had first-hand
experience during these times.
