Hello,
I was very pleased to receive your responses to my initial email inquiry.
Forgive me for not responding sooner, but I do not have daily access to my
email. First, to give you a little more information, and respond to some
of your thoughts. I am a United States Peace Corps volunteer. My volunteer
assignment is with the Department of Economic Development of the City of
Chernivtsi, headed by Natalia Shevchenko. The department's activities
include tourist development. In this regard, the city is collaborating with
Natalia Filatova to open the museum. The city has a rich cultural history,
the preservation of which contributes to the city's attractiveness as a
tourist destination. I am working with both Ms. Shevchenko and Ms. Filatova
on this project.
Someone suggested that other ethnic groups also warrant appropriate levels
of attention. This is true, and Natalia Shevchenko agrees, and has a long
term vision of a museum with room devoted to other ethnic groups as well.
The starting point, however, is an exhibit devoted to Jews.
The venue for the exhibit is space on the ground floor of the Jewish
Building located on Teatralna Plozha (Theater Square). The space is not
huge, but is excellently situated. Ms. Filatova plans to divide the exhibit
into sections based on difference facets of life (daily life, the arts,
sports, etc.). She has already accumulated some things for the exhibit,
but, as I indicated in my initial email, still needs items.
I will discuss the idea of a slide show with the Natalias as soon as I can,
and get back to you. In the meantime, I still am looking for original items
anyone has that they are willing to donate or loan to the exhibit.
Thanks again for your interest.
Sincerely, Maita Prout
