The glorious City of Czernowitz knows how to pay
tribute to its illustrious sons.
Take Joseph Schmidt the tenor.
A beautiful black marble plaque tells the story of
the famous "bukovinean"singer.
( To simply write that he was jewish didn't occur .)
The plaque is written in Ukrainean but leaves no doubt as
to the ethnic origin of the singer.
There is a Mogen David and the the relevant dates
are according to the Hebrew calendar.
So far so good.
Now how do we find it . It is in the Temple , but where ?
I know, it isn't easy so I'll help you.
Go to the Temple, it is easy to find if not ,ask
for the cinema Zhovten , it is near the Ringplatz.
Go in , after you pass the shops there is the big foyeur.
In the foyeur there is a clothes bazaar abuzz with
crowds of buyers.
You look around but don't see anything.
Look at the far left corner , on the wall , hidden by that
tall cupboard .
Don't see it yet ? Yes , behind the yellow bathrobes.
Just move the bathrobe trolley aside.
No , they won't mind , tell them that you are a tourist ..
