Hi Yossi,
Thanks for the obituary about Prof.Jawetz.
We, my late husband and me met him in the end of the 1980, I do not remember
where, but he was very friendly when he learned that we are from Czernowitz
and made the Alliya only in 1982. He discussed with my husband many problems
on high level, I was like a quite observer UNO. I made than research about
Jewish women artists and he was very interested. When the first volume was
printed, I sent him a book, and he thanks. In February 2005, I had a
presentation in Tel-Aviv, in the Austrian-Israel Club about the second
volume, I gave him a phone call and invited him, and he came, also Prof.Roy
Wiehn, my editor, Josef Rudel and many people were there.I did a photo of
Prof.Jawetz, discussing with Josef Rudel...Last night I was looking for it
in my archive, I did not found it, but found another one:Prof.Jawetz,
Prof.Wiehn and me, after the lecture..on the back is written the
date:5.February 2005. I tried to scan it, but my scanner has his own
will...The last time I met him was 3 years ago, at Tel-Aviv, at the Zion
House, the Czernowtzer meeting. He stayed one bench before me, I spoke to
him, he was very friendly, like ever, but I am not sure if he recognized
me...
A big loss for our Israel, for the historians all over the world. a big loss
for us, Czernowitzer.
Hedwig

Subject: [Cz-L] Zwi Yavets
Zwi Yawets was a prominent figure in many areas other than his worldwide
status as a historian of Rome. Anyone who has met him or heard his lectures
was captured by his personal charm. About Czernowitz, he wrote several
articles and at the end - the book "My Czernowitz" which I recommend to all
our readers of Hebrew. His death is a great loss, but that's the way of the
world - we must accept the fact that we are transitory entities.
