The date on which Jewish residents of Czernowitz were commanded
to go to the ghetto is definitely October 11th of 1941.
There were deportations in the fall and early winter of 1941.
These were stopped for a while and then resumed on the night
of June 6th - 7th, 1942 and in July of the same year.
In 1943 young men were taken on "munca" (work) to build a major road
in southern Romania.
Some of those who were working as forced laborers on this road,
managed to bribe officials and get away on a ship to Palestine.
