Had we stayed, we would all probably be dead by now, either in
Czernowitz or somewhere in Siberia.
Not only would we not be alive today, but before we died, we would
have had to endure
collectivization, humiliation and deprivation.
We would have become either homo totalitarian (glad to live under a
totalitarian regime)
or we would have become fossilized homo Czernowitz, an almost extinct
species, who's
offspring had mutated to become home Muscoven.
