Andys analisys :
 1. The Prut - due to changing climate the river carries little water
      and whats left is polluted.
 2. Medicine is far from up to date. Depends on donations.
 3. As lately stated they have lots of Mercedes cars but very bad roads.
 4. Their bible is not different from other. The people are.
 5. Your childhood Czernowitz has no relevance on today Czernowitz.
 6. Israel is a different story. Completely different.
 7. You are not too old for anything. 8. As to tropical island - have you
read Herman Wouk's
 " Don't Stop the Carnival ?"

Re Restitution and living in Cz - Those of you living in the U.S. and
Canada, be advised that your tax dollars provide the Ukraine with
substantial aid. Contact your representatives and beef. Point out that most
ex-Communist countries have returned property. Former Russian territories go
back to the teens so it's understandable but Bucovina turned Communist only
after WW II, like Poland and Romania, etc. If you had property in Kiev, it's
one story but Cz should be treated as all the others which have returned
property. I know a retired Romanian professor (Harvard and Boston College)
who is the son of a former Minister in King Carol's government. They had
five homes in Bucharest and the surrounding area and he got them all back.
Those of you which live in other Western countries, check to see if your
country provides the Ukraine with aid and if so, get after your
representatives and make noise.

As for living in Cz today? Nobody can give anyone else advice since that's a
very personal matter. Early man settled by rivers for drinking water and
transportation. Cz with the Prut passes that test. In some ways it probably
has some of the inconveniences of a third world country - which can be
charming if you're a romantic. Health care is another important
consideration. With socialized medicine in much of the industrialized world
which often is downright deadly dangerous, Cz may offer relatively decent
medical care at affordable prices. All the operations I ever had were
performed in my childhood in Cz before we left it.
