It looks that the Jewish population before the WWII and before the exodus in
the 70s was approximately 50000 at its peak.
Still the numbers are impressive considering that most of the Jews lived
around the city centre.
Also, a great number of young people were leaving Chernovtsy to study in
Russia and in other Soviet republics due to the anti-Semitism and the
numerus clausus. I am wondering if they were included in the census.
