Czernowitz was a most musical town.
Every time the Gelber from parter beat the carpets
in the court she did it to the tempo of Kalmar Operetta Czardas
making the street resound with her shrill voice..
And from second floor the Sammler family with Rigoletto quartet
  " Holdes Maedchen"
Then came the singing street Kaptzen with:" Stein , Stein
   heiliger Stein, Di bist amul...."
And the Ukrainean Hausmeister was singing Krasavitza romances.
     And on and on....
     We were most musical.
    A very musical town

Subject: [Cz-L] Childhood in Czernowitz

Dear all,

I am hoping to gather tales of childhood in Czernowitz. In particular, I
would love to know about songs, games and favourite childhood treats. What
can you remember? If I get enough material - and even pictures? - I will put
together a little book for the third generation folks like myself, and our
children. My children - Benjamin and Joel - are now five and two. I would
like put a little something in their treasure boxes, for when they are
older...

Warm regards from Vancouver,

Shula
