If you google for schmettentorte you will get two likely responses. One is in Ruth Sirkin's Kitchen with Love books.google.com/books/about/From_Ruth_s_Kitchen_with_Love.html?id...(regrettably I could not open this link but perhaps some of you can - incidentally, this recipe does not appear in her Hebrew equivalent books) and the other is apparently in a booklet of a Transylvanian paper http://www.siebenbuerger.de/zeitung/artikel/alteartikel/3832-lyrisches-und-lukullisches-schwarz-auf.html
but you have to order the booklet - it costs some 5.5 Euro.
I will send soon a recipe for Malai that we are using frequently and successfully - it is a combination of two recipes that we received from a great-aunt and a Bukowiner neighbour and differs somewhat from those in the cookbooks on the ehpes link. Incidentally - I was advised that some Romanian acquaintance are using a Pessah recipe for Malai (no wheat flour - only maize flour that is koshe for those who eat pulses on Pessah). If I get it in time I will send it to you.
Happy pessah to all
Mordecai Lapidot
