Dear Mr. Kylynych,
Thank you very much for your e-mail of today . You are perfectly
right. I am not acquainted with the detailed plan of the Jubilee
Celebration since your official
website is not a source of information about the detailed plans and
projects. You mention your efforts made in preparing the Anniversary and
your aim at most
precise investigations regarding the history and traditions of
inter-ethnic and inter-religious tolerance.
Studying your website I noticed major omissions which have escaped your
attention. Since you talk about most precise investigations, I cannot
imagine a reason
why in your history of the city you simply skipped huge periods of time
as if they wouldn't have existed. Between 1905 and 1964 Czernowitz
vanishes historically
from the website. Further, Mikola Fedoruk was not/not the first mayor in
the history of the city elected by its citizens. Many before him were
democratically
elected, etc.
By mentioning these two examples out of many, I would encourage you and
your investigation committee to re-investigate and complete with facts,
names and
dates the major accomplishments achieved by Czernowitzers during the
_whole_ 600-years history. If you don't manage to complete in an
objective way the image
of Chernivtzi until its 600th Anniversary, future generations will
correct the missing links and help history regain its credibility.
As one source of information out of many, I send you again the internet
address : www.ehpes.com. or I recommend the works of W. Kaindl
available at your
university, the works of Professor Corbea-Hoisie, and many others.
Sincerely yours,
Eduard Weissmann
