Edgar,

Am I allowed to mention the WWI? Or the after-effects of Perestroika? These
(and the WWII) were the major historical events that shaped the history of
Bukovina.

I take the blame for stirring the List up. It's about time that the real,
dynamic history of Cz and Bukovina is represented and not a small subjective
period of it. Reading some of the posts one would think that Habsurgs are
still ruling that idyllic place.
My parents went to Romanian schools in a pre-war Cz and they called the
streets of Cz by their Romanian names. I call them by their Russian names.
My cousin calls them by their new Ukranian names. This is the real Cz and it
still retains its essence.

For a long period of time some of the List members were chasing away people
from a (slightly) younger generation of Czernowitzers only because they did
not fit into the picture they painted.

Edgar, I don't know what is your background and how many years you've spent
living in Cz, walking in its beautiful parks, skiing in Tzetsino, reading
poetry with friends in the amazing Rezidenz gardens and interacting with a
local population. I did all that for 19 years of my life.

While I feel passionate about the subject I will continue sharing my
opinion and my experiences as I think that my children and my grandchildren
may one day visit this impressive web-site and your blog.

Unless the moderators find my material offensive and order me out of the
List.

Subject: [Cz-L] Generalizations...

Serah...

Although I'm appreciating your engagement, especially focussing on post-WW2
(Jewish) history in Czernowitz and Bukovina, I can't help but confronting
you with some of your own statements over the last months:

24.01.2013: Who wants to live there, among the descendants of murderers?
24.01.2013: In fact, they [Ukrainians] are thieves that have the hutzpa to
sell something that doesn't belong to them- namely, the Jewish houses!
27.01.2013: The problem is that Ukrainians are anti-Semites and murderers
given an opportunity.
28.01.2013: ...ask them [Ukrainians] to return your property in the informal
manner and I
won't give one grivna for your life.
28.01.2013: ...for me, their [Ukrainians] murderous greediness is crystal
clear.
31.01.2013: I am not condemning personally anyone, but some nations are more
at fault than others.
31.01.2013: ...no one here [Ehpes] is blaming Romanians in mass atrocities,
even though they were Germany's allies.
19.02.2013: I did not expressed horror, I just posted my opinion.

Does that sound to you as just posting an opinion? Sorry, not to me - see
27.01.2013 (!) - and therefore I criticized some of your statements as
"attribution of kin liabilty and collective guilt by - ethnic -
generalization", not to name it more precisely. Well, in my view, those
statements led finally to a certain disintegration of our group,
unfortunately culminating by Hardy's posting strike.

As you, dear Serah, I had prefered not to touch this subject again, but...
