Dear Hardy,

I'll tell you for whom and for what:

For me, who each day hopes to find in my inbox juicy Bukovina tidbits and
spicy Czernowitz crumbs. I mined your voluminous emails when I was writing
my own family memoir (my father grew up in Czernowitz), and collected the
many photos you shared with us into a precious little album. Your silence
over the past several weeks has left a void that proved how much you have
become part of my daily routine.

For my youngest son, with whom I share many of the stories related by =B3Uncl=
e
Hardy,=B2 as we refer to you. Your unintended influence has much to do with
his learning Romanian, his desire to travel throughout Bukovina, and his
exploring Romanian citizenship.

For Suzanne, who has been so inspired by your stories that she has begun
exploring her own family roots in Italy, Lithuania, and Ireland. She often
says to me, =B3If only there were more Hardys.=B2

And remember that traditionally the jester was very wise and illuminated fo=
r
the king and his court things that no one else saw. So for all of us Hardy
Boys and Gals, please come out of your self-imposed hiatus. Downton Abbey
just isn=B9t enough for us.

Fondly,

Shlomo Shyovitz
